Jahanara
Jahanara
After her first Belly Dance Class in Pullman, WA in 1989, she was hooked. Even after subtracting the years when she didn’t have the time or money to take lessons, Jahanara has taken classes and workshops from various instructors for over seventeen years, including Aziz, Sidonia Om Dunia, Margo Abdo O’dell, Oreet, Nejwah, Samira Il Naia, Freyja, Nabeela El Shalimar, Aneena, Sian, Aradia Wynn, Nadira, Michelle Joyce, Dunya, Sahara, Sedona, Jenna and others. Jahanara started performing in 1995. After the birth of her second child, she taught a fitness Belly Dance Class at a Boise, Idaho gym for one year, enabling her to shed those last baby pounds, plus two more! Her instructional style is such that both beginners and more advanced students can work together at their own levels, and she is able to work individually with students to improve their form during class, without stopping the momentum of the class. She is currently teaching classes through the Meridian, Idaho Parks and Recreation Department. Jahanara is the creator of Tribaloric Belly Dance, improvised group folkloric performances.
Jahanara started dancing at the age of four. She has received instruction in traditional Egyptian Cabaret, American Cabaret, Tribal Style Belly Dance, Tribal Fusion, Folkloric Belly Dance, ballet, tap, jazz, African, Indian, Flamenco, and social dance. Oriental Dance, also called Raqs Sharqi (Raks Sharki), or Belly Dance. is the form she fell in love with the most, and enjoys sharing with others. She has taken lessons from Sidonia Om Dunia, winner of the Belly Dancer USA 2008 Goddess Division, 2006 Double Crown Masters winner, second place winner of the 2006 Wiggles of the West Headliner of the Year Division, and second place winner in Belly Dancer USA 7 Veils Division. Jahanara will instruct or perform in the following Idaho Cities: Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Caldwell, Eagle, Star, Kuna, Twin Falls, and Emmett.
